Are you finding yourself eating every time when you’re bored? Are you constantly going to and from the kitchen looking for food to eat for the sake of it?
First thing you need to understand is the difference between hunger and appetite.
Hunger is a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by a lack of food. This is the time we need to listen to our body and consume food because it needs it.
Appetite is a desire to eat something we like, certain foods will trigger this and this is different for each individual. Appetite isn’t a need, it’s a want. So you now know the difference between the two.
Here are now 3 ways you don’t give straight away into appetite:
- Distract yourself. Might seem simple, but occupy yourself by doing something productive or do something you enjoy. Examples like go for a walk, clean the house, mow the lawn or paint your nails (if that’s your thing guys)
- 2. Wait it out. When you feel the urge to have something or you see something you want, have a think, when was the last time you ate? Do you really need it? Also, if you always give in at the first sign of appetite, you will have self control.
- Drink some water. A lot of the time when you feel like you are hungry, you’re actually dehydrated. So instead of eating, try drinking and see how that makes you feel.
There is nothing wrong with having foods that we desire, but it should be that we have them through choice, not because we can’t stop ourself’s from having them. Does that make sense?
All these tips may seem simple, but they are very effective if you put them into action.
Lastly, I also want to say, to think about your health & fitness goals. What’s more important, that food you constantly go to in the cupboard/fridge, which doesn’t make you feel good after you’ve eaten it? Or looking and feeling great in your own skin? I think that’s a no brainer.
